The Cape York Girl Academy is where young mums and their bubs live and learn together.
Girls undertake an individual learning program based on their age and academic level. They work to complete their secondary schooling and have an opportunity to achieve a variety of vocational qualifications.
Vocational Education and Training (VET) opportunities aimed at preparing students for work include:
- Certificate III Children’s Services
- Diploma of Child Care
- Certificates in Business Administration and Hospitality
In addition to VET courses, work experience and school-based traineeships can be pursued. These can be incorporated into an OP eligible pathway.
The girls are taught study techniques that will prepare them for further education beyond secondary school.
Early Learning Centre
The school has flexible learning hours to suit mothers and babies. While mothers are doing class work, their babies are cared for at the Early Learning Centre.
All mothers share the care of children at the school spending several hours a day working in the Early Learning Centre and learning about child development, health and nutrition, communicating and connecting with children.
“They’ll be able to find good jobs and make a good lifestyle to raise their children and their children’s children.” ~ Anna
