Rights, Recognition and Empowerment
Cape York Indigenous Summit - May 5, 2015
This year’s Cape York Summit is just one week away. More than 150 Traditional Owners from across Cape York will unite in Cairns over a packed agenda of very important conversations around Rights, Recognition and Empowerment.
Participants will yarn about our Rights in land including how we can progress our right to development on Cape York and our ‘One Claim’ native title application.
There will also be time to talk about achieving Constitutional Recognition for our people.
Finally we want Empowerment in our dealings with government. The Summit will give the opportunity to understand the national Indigenous led Empowered Communities initiative and how we can work together to make the changes we want for our families and their children.
The Summit to be held on 12-13 May builds on the i20 Cape York Summit in September last year where 75 Traditional Owners came together to plan their economic future. Cape York is seriously getting down to business with plans already underway to reconvene in September to cement our position, commitment to reform.
The Summit is being organised by Cape York Partnership, Apunipima, Balkanu and Cape York Land council.
