Peah Satrick is an organiser. The kind of person who believes there is a place for everything and everything should be in its place, and that no lunch should be abandoned in the office fridge. So, it’s little surprise she is thriving in her role as Administration Officer for Cape York Partnership.
While in her senior years at Cape York Girl Academy, Peah got her first taste of an office environment when she completed a week’s work experience as admin support with Cape York Partnership.
She encountered the usual challenges of using new software and fine tuning her telephone etiquette, but the biggest obstacle she needed to overcome was the fear of asking questions.
“I learnt that I needed to be proactive and ask for help,” Peah says. “Once I started to do that, I grew in confidence.”
In 2023, a couple of years after graduating and with two young kids at home, Peah was ready to start her career. She reached out to the place she completed her work experience and her resume was passed on to Krista and BJ at School to Jobs. School to Jobs, an initiative of Cape York Employment, works with students and recent school leavers to find their pathway to work and mentor them through their first years.
“I actually worked with Peah during her work experience,” Krista said. “So I knew she would be perfect for the role of Admin Officer with Cape York Partnership.”
When Peah found out she secured the role as Administration Officer, she was filled with pride, knowing she would be able support her young family with a stable, full-time job.
“I came back to CYP in 2023 because of the organisation’s purpose and vision it has for my people, and the positive feedback from the staff and my mentors that motivated me,” Peah said.

Since starting her role, School to Jobs has been there by her side encouraging her to not only stay on track but to step out of her comfort zone and to build her skills set.
“Cape York Institute Leadership Academy was running a new Skills to Lead workshop and I encouraged Peah to take up the opportunity to participate,” BJ said.
Peah found the workshop gave her valuable insights into soft skills that would be transferable to any role in the future.
I learnt a lot about myself during the workshop,” Peah said. “I know more about my strengths and areas I can work on.”
For School to Jobs, Peah is a great example of a young future leader who has is taking every opportunity and reaping the rewards.
“Peah has blossomed into an office superstar,” Krista said. “She has found her place at Cape York Partnership. She is proactive and very personable. Just don’t leave your lunch in the fridge for too long!”
