Throwback to the NAIDOC community celebrations in Aurukun. Since this year’s NAIDOC theme was ‘Because of Her, We Can’, O-Hub and Cape York Employment gifted the community with Honour Wall images of inspiring Aurukun women, who have shaped Aurukun’s history and played a key role in raising younger generations and keeping culture and language alive.
Kenlock was proud to have his grandmother, Minoota, featured. She is warmly remembered for teaching family ways and culture in the bush, including sacred sites to girls who are mothers and grandmothers
today.
Kenlock has many inspiring women around him. His wife, who worked at the Aurukun Shire Council office, had the idea of putting her money aside, which sowed the seeds for MPower – which has now helped 2,233 people across Cape York to manage their finances.
