A new music band has been established at Djarragun as part of its after-hours program for boarding students.

The Gordonvale Project comprises of local school teacher, Wesley Hull, Djarragun Boarding Parent, Barry Cedric, and Djarragun boarding students. Students from other local schools have also been invited to join.

Their music, which traces the story of the first Indigenous people to live in the Gordonvale area, as well as the arrival of white settlers and industrialisation since then, enables students to learn about and appreciate the district’s history.

The band is currently recording demos for its first CD, which it aims to release in 2017. Band members are proud of what they’re creating and are, in turn, doing their families and communities proud.
