Mesela Newman has been a CYLP Academic Secondary Leader since 2012, during which time she has attended Columba Catholic College in Charters Towers.
Throughout her schooling, Mesela was a conscientious student. She was recognised for her academic achievements, receiving a Junior Academic Award at the Catholic Education Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Awards in 2014 and a James Cook University Award for Academic Encouragement in 2016.
Mesela has successfully completed her Certificate II in Hospitality during her senior years and recently attended a CEO career day at JCU to find out about different career pathways.
She has also been actively involved in various school sports.
In 2016, Mesela held the position of Senior Residential Leader, and was congratulated for her outstanding efforts in supporting her fellow boarding students. Mesela has aspirations to attend University after taking a gap year in 2017.
