Thursday 17th August saw community members, services and families come together to celebrate NAIDOC at the Strong Families Parenting Hub.
Approximately 100 community member and service providers enjoyed a healthy start to the day with breakfast at the Apunipima Wellbeing Centre before marching down Kang Kang Road to the centre of town. The group were led by a police escort, CYP employees Phil and Paul on drums and CYE jobseekers Jennifer and Georgina proudly waving the Aboriginal and Torres Strait flags.
Upon arrival to the Parenting Hub, the group was led by Jonah Yunkaporta in a Welcome to Country and many families came together to celebrate the unique history of Aurukun.
With art and craft activities, face painting, nail painting, give-aways, a big BBQ and the sharing of traditional dance, the Aurukun NAIDOC celebration brought together young and old to celebrate the past, enjoy the present and look towards the future.
Great teamwork and attendance across services on the day, including CYE, O-Hub, Apunipima, Queensland Police, PAMA Language Centre, Koolkan Childcare Centre, RAATSICC, Youth Justice and T2S.
