Agnes pwi tralawati chwakana, dwimi-kerrimirri njanhakumu.
“Agnes is collecting red seeds to make necklaces.”
Agnes Mark and her sisters Victoria and Susan Kennedy, are reclaiming their language.
Agnes’s grandfather Donald Fletcher, the last fluent speaker of Mpakwithi, learned his language by escaping from the mission dormitory to spend time with free Mpakwithi Elders in the bush.
The sisters are studying their unique language with linguist Xavier Barker and producing songs and resources to support learning in the school and homes.
