Kaava Watson is from the Birri Gubba and Gangulu people of central Queensland but born and raised in Brisbane, where his family has a strong historical connection to the Indigenous community of South East Queensland. He is a graduate of the Queensland University of Technology with Bachelor’s degrees in both Justice and Law and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. Professionally he has worked across a variety of areas including youth justice and education. More recently, he was Chief Executive Officer of Brisbane Indigenous Media Association a multimedia organisation commonly known for its radio station 989fm (Murri Country), and is now General Manager of Family Health and Wellbeing services at Institute for Urban Indigenous Health.
