Students Take the Slopes

Koreena Minniecon, currently studying at The Cathedral School of St Anne & St James – Townsville , shared the following experience: “I recently had the opportunity to travel to New Zealand as part of a Senior School Ski Trip with The Cathedral School. This was the first opportunity I have ever had to experience snow and was lucky enough to actually see it snowing on one day of the trip. It took place over the June/July holidays in the space of ten days. Five of these days were spent up in the beautiful snowy mountains learning to snowboard. Another three days we spent as tourist exploring Queenstown and a beautiful sheep farm, as a group we went jet boating, had a cultural presentation night of the Kiwi Haka, and enjoyed sightseeing in our travels from Methven through to Queenstown. The two other days were spent travelling to and from New Zealand. Though I enjoyed every aspect of the trip I couldn’t have had this amazing opportunity without the Cape York Leaders Program’s support. They have supported me in many things throughout my time in high school with struggles, moving schools, and giving me the opportunity to do things I couldn’t do at home. The skip trip is just one of the many things that they have helped with, they have also helped me in my Certificate II in screen that I am studying, the aviation one-day course I completed, and I am soon going to be able to attend the Tony Robbins ‘UNLEASH THE POWER WITHIN’ in Sydney at the end of term 3. These are just a few of the opportunities given to me by the Cape York Leaders Program and are very thankful and grateful to all of the Cape York Leader staff team.”
