Meet Audrey Deemal, one of our inspiring Cape York Leadership Academy alumni who has carved her path to success through hard work and determination. Audrey, who comes from the Hope Vale community, is Cape York Partnerships’ General Manager of Cape Operations. She is a driving force behind four Opportunity Hubs based in Aurukun, Hope Vale, Coen, and Mossman Gorge. With an unwavering commitment to making a difference, empowering individuals and families across the Cape, Audrey is an inspiration to all who she engages with.
We had the pleasure of asking Audrey about her motivations for joining the Leadership Academy and the invaluable takeaways she gained from the experience. Here’s what she had to say…
“I first engaged with the Cape York Leaders Program in 2011 when I came to CYP as the initial O-Hub leader in Hope Vale. Before that, I worked in the health field and didn’t know anything about leadership. I wanted to know more about leadership skills because I’m constantly being told by peers and family that I was a leader within my community.”
“I didn’t see myself as a leader whatsoever and I wanted to look at what I needed to do to build myself and find that skill within me.”
“I think the greatest learning curve was when I did the ‘RELISH’ framework with my mentor. We went in-depth to find out who I really was as a person, as a leader, as an aunt, a family member and community member. It showed us where our flaws were and things that we had to enhance or develop to strengthen our leadership skills”.
