About Cape York Leaders Program:

The Cape York Leaders Program supports the development of current and future Cape York leaders. Cape York Partnership is committed to empowering talented Indigenous leaders of the region to drive and own the Cape York Agenda by providing them with the necessary leadership skills.

The Cape York Leaders Program (CYLP) offers scholarships and support to assist talented Indigenous students enter credible academic institutions and graduate with a standard of excellence.

About the role:
  • The primary responsibilities of this position will be to support students, parents and key stakeholders.
  • Provide support to our CYLP secondary students to stay focused so they participate actively in their education and enable them to reach their full potential at school.
  • Work effectively with schools to ensure student is progressing and being supported by all stakeholders
  • Develop strong relationships with student’s parents /carers to enable their active involvement in their child’s education.
  • Provide support to our CYLP Secondary students that assists in a high retention of students on our program in Brisbane based partner schools.
  • Provide effective case management to ensure our students have the support they need to achieve their academic and non-academic goals.
  • Ensure secondary students receive sufficient support to allow them to prioritise and focus on their academic achievements to gain ATAR/QCE score and entry into tertiary education.
  • Demonstrated case management experience, able to provide student centred supports.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with young Indigenous people.
  • Demonstrated organisational and communication skills.
  • Understanding of issues affecting Indigenous young people from remote communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with young Indigenous people and to develop and maintain appropriate working relationships with client base.
  • Sound interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Demonstrated well-developed oral and written communication skills (including computer skills).
  • A current full driver’s license.
  • Experience working with young Indigenous people
  • Case management and/or student support skills or experience.
  • Evidence of Blue Card, Police clearance and COVID-19 vaccinations will be required if successful.
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged to apply (proof of indigeneity certification required).
