CYLP leader Lachlan Cobus’ journey from Hope Vale to Brisbane

Cape York Leaders Program scholar Lachlan Cobus is already showing the kind of determination and vision that sets CYLP students apart while boarding at Marist College Ashgrove.

Lachlan said one of his favourite subjects is religion, as it gives him the chance to learn about different cultures and worldviews – especially those of Indigenous peoples around the globe.

Inspired by his sister Tykeerah, the first in his family to graduate and a CYLP alumni, Lachlan joined the program with a clear goal: to follow in her footsteps and finish school strong. But he’s also got his sights set on something even bigger.

“I promised myself and my family that one day I’ll make it into the NRL,” Lachlan said.
