OPPORTUNITY PRODUCT Overview
Established in 2020, Mayi Market is a not-for-profit Indigenous social enterprise delivering quality, fresh food to remote Cape York communities at fair prices. We currently make fortnightly deliveries to Coen, Hope Vale, Wujal Wujal, Mossman Gorge, Aurukun and, most recently, Laura.
We believe access to affordable, nutritious food is key to improving the health and wellbeing of our communities – healthy meal, healthy mob.
All revenue from sales goes back into operating the social enterprise and improving the prices, products and services.

New customers in 2025Why it Matters
Many families in Cape York face the reality of fresh food and essential items costing up to three times more than in regional centres, like Cairns, often for lower-quality produce. This food insecurity drives reliance on poorer nutritional options that contribute to chronic health conditions.
Apunipima Cape York Health Council reports diabetes in children as young as five years of age, and have growing concerns about under-nutrition and early obesity.
It is clear that food insecurity and the exorbitant cost of quality fresh food is contributing to a high rate of chronic disease in our communities.
The Opportunity
Using our very own refrigerated Mayi Market truck, we currently deliver food boxes to O-Hubs in Aurukun, Coen, Hope Vale and Mossman Gorge, as well as community pick-up points in Wujal Wujal and Laura every fortnight. Our O-Hubs also keep limited stock on-site for purchase.
Mayi Market encourages pre-orders online with local O-Hub support and customers can use Centrepay and direct debit payments to ensure fresh food is prioritised in their budget.
We support local Indigenous employment and work closely with producers and distributors to keep prices as low as possible.
The Impact
Since launching, Mayi Market has sold more than $2 million in fresh food and essential items to over 1,800 customers across Cape York, helping families save thousands of dollars while improving access to healthy, affordable food.
In 2025, Mayi Market continued to strengthen food security and community wellbeing. During wet season road closures, the team coordinated airlifts to deliver 1,280 kilograms of essential food to Coen. Across the year, 3,623 boxes were provided, 189 new customers placed orders, $384,000 worth of food was purchased and 76 Christmas hampers were sold.
