Why it Matters

Financial exclusion remains a significant challenge in Cape York, where remoteness, socioeconomic disadvantage, digital land financial literacy, and differing cultural approaches to money can limit access to mainstream financial systems. Without trusted, practical support, these barriers can restrict opportunities and long-term security.

MPower addresses this by building financial capability and confidence through locally delivered support, enabling individuals and families to manage money effectively, pursue their goals and participate fully in the economy.

the opportunity

MPower gives people practical, local support to understand their money and take control of everyday financial decisions.

Through O-Hubs, people can access one-on-one coaching, financial counselling, You and Your Money assessments, budgeting support and money management tools. Support can include banking access, debt reduction, payments, loans, purchasing decisions and wealth creation.

By combining trusted local staff with practical financial tools, MPower helps people reduce stress, solve problems and build the skills needed to manage money independently.

THE Impact

MPower is one of O-Hubs most widely used Opportunity Products, with 1,054 members using self-service tools in 2025.

MPower also welcomed 88 new members, completed 1,323 You and Your Money assessments and delivered 703 financial counselling sessions, a 9.5% increase.

The year also included 164 coaching sessions, 152 budgets created and 109 money management tools accessed, helping people take action on banking, debt, budgeting, payments and financial goals.
