Cape York Girl Academy 2024 Formal

The Bensen Hotel was lit up for an evening of pride, culture, reflection and heartfelt celebration as Cape York Girl Academy recognised its 2024 seniors.

The event marked a significant milestone for the three outstanding graduates, Ada, Tilona and Lexine, whose graduation was celebrated alongside their families and the Academy community.

The Academy’s broader student base was acknowledged as several academic awards were handed out during the night.

During her speech, Head of Campus, Shonell Gohier highlighted the graduates’ courage, growth and perseverance.

“Tonight is about honouring not only achievements but also the strength, heart, and spirit our students have shown throughout their time here,” she said during her address.

Shonell acknowledged the vital role of family support in the graduates’ success, saying, “You have been their constant cheerleaders, their foundation, and their guiding lights.”

Ms Gohier said throughout the year, the students have reached new milestones, embraced new challenges, and shown incredible resilience.

“You’ve done this in the classroom, through your friendships and even in the quiet moments when you chose to stand up for what you believe in,” she said.

“Whether you were mastering a difficult subject, learning to lead, or lending a hand to a friend in need, each of you has made a mark on this community that will be felt for years to come.”

Your journey at the Academy has proven that you are not simply students, but young women who will lead, inspire, and impact the world around you.

The evening served as a reminder of the power of education, the strength of community and the importance of being proud of one's culture.
