Published in today’s edition of “Inspire” from Cairns Post is a work by Leader and Year 12 student, Miah Martin:
“My name is Miah Martin. I am from Cairns, Queensland, and I am a Kuku Yalanji and Yindinji man.
Earlier this year myself and my brother Zephy got selected for the “Raise the Bar” program, where Indigenous young athletes from all over Australia between the ages of 15 and 17 came together in Melbourne.
I was nominated for this program by my school, Djarragun College.
This program is for young Indigenous people who excel at sports and have dreams of attending tertiary study in the future.
Myself and my brother Zephaniah were selected for this program as we are sprinters who have competed in events across Queensland and Australia.
Our coach thought it was a good opportunity to learn from other coaches and build relationships with other athletes….”
