Uncle Shorty steps on to the global stage

Uncle Shorty Apudthinngal Wuchama – Uncle Shorty and the Three Snakes – a Yadhaykenu song film clip composed and sung by Meun Lifu and Joshua McHugh, with artwork and animation by the Pama Language Centre team, has been selected as a finalist at the South Pacific International Film Festival, screening from 30 Sept –10 Nov in Auckland, Ruby Bay and Nelson.

The Yadhaykenu language is a revival language from the Northern Peninsula Area of Far North Queensland. Meun Lifu is working with Pama Language Centre to create original resources to teach and support transmission of Yadheykenu language. He is currently the only living speaker of his language.

Film Accreditations

The South Pacific International Film Festival showcases award winning and selected short film productions from all over the world, such as Argentina, Australia, Canada, Japan, Poland, Ukraine, as well as New Zealand.  Uncle Shorty Apudthinngal Wuchama also received the award for Best Animation at the Understory Film Festival last year.
