For Meshech, the transition from school to work quickly grew into a practical career in landscaping. Originally from Bamaga, he completed Year 12 at Northern Peninsula Area State College in 2023 and relocated to Mareeba, ready to start building his future.
After connecting with the School-to-Jobs team, Meshech explored employment options and prepared for the workforce. This guidance led to an apprenticeship with Tablelands Garden Landscape Solutions.
The role allows Meshech to work outdoors, develop practical skills, and gain experience across different aspects of landscape construction.
His employer says Meshech is fitting in well, showing a positive attitude and building confidence as he learns the job’s daily demands.
Starting work has been a learning curve for Meshech, but our check-ins provide needed support.
Manager School to Jobs, Karl Adams
“I am enjoying the apprenticeship, working outdoors, and tackling different jobs,” Meshech says, reflecting on his early experiences in the industry.
Alongside his on-the-job training, Meshech studies for a Certificate III in Landscape Construction through TAFE, travelling monthly to Cairns to learn more.
School to Jobs continues to stay connected with Meshech through regular check-ins, helping him navigate his new role, settle in, and balance work and study.
School to Jobs supports young people as they move from school to employment, helping build skills, confidence, and pathways to opportunity.
For Meshech, this apprenticeship is a crucial step forward, the start of a career and future he is building for himself.
