From Coen to Marist College Ashgrove, Dereese has been a part of the Cape York Leadership Program since 2015. Dereese is the older brother of two siblings and left home for the very first time at the age of 12 years old. He was a quiet individual, though managed to adjust to boarding life. He has since flourished into a confident well-spoken young man.
2019 will see Dereese step into a leadership role within the Marist Boarding community as he received his leadership badge at the Inaugural Mass last Thursday. His induction into this role demonstrates his commitment to contributing positively to the culture of Marist boarding. He is a current role model to our existing and new Cape York Leaders at the school and he is often called upon for support.
‘Quote from Mr Brendan Kiernan 2018’ – Boarding Staff Member “Dereese is highly respected by staff and his peers alike and should look forward to a very successful final semester of Year 11 Boarding.
Dereese consistently participates in meetings with Cape York Leaders Program Student Support Officers to discuss progress in school commitments, management of workload and scholarship requirements such as attending tutoring sessions.
With ongoing support from his family, Cape York Leadership Program and the school community, Dereese has gone from strength to strength. Dereese has big goals for the future with aspirations to join the Australian Defence Force.
The opportunities are endless for Dereese as he continues his Academic and Leadership journey. We believe stepping into the role of Boarding Captain will continually encourage new challenges and continue to build confidence and independence. Cape York Leaders Program are excited to see Dereeses’ achievements in his final year of high school.”
