A future in the trades is on the cards for proud Hope Vale local Casiarna Bowen after she successfully completed Year 12 at Saint Peter’s Lutheran College in Brisbane.
Supported through a Cape York Leaders Program (CYLP) scholarship, Casiarna was able to successfully navigate her secondary schooling journey by using the various supports provided by the program, including financial support, tutoring and other wellbeing assistance.
Reflecting on the year and her time as a CYLP scholarship student, Casiarna highlighted the annual CYLP camp as her favourite memory. “Just coming together as a community and supporting each other before embarking on a new year,” she said.
Casiarna said CYLP has been a cornerstone of her schooling journey. “They helped me in a big way,” she said.
The scholarship has supported me by ensuring I got to school and helped me financially. Without them, I probably wouldn’t have made it through

She holds the milestone of finishing Year 12 close to her heart and sees it as the foundation for giving back to her community. “A good education is so important,” she said.
Looking to the future, Casiarna is exploring her options in the trades and while she’s still deciding which field to pursue, her talent and love for working with her hands will ensure she excels at any trade she decided to gor for.
As Casiarna prepares for her next steps, she hopes to secure an apprenticeship in a trade that suits her strengths.
