Kirsty Davis speaks with ABC on child safety reform

Cape York Institute for Policy and Leadership CEO Kirsty Davis has spoken with ABC News and ABC Radio following the release of Queensland’s Child Safety Commission of Inquiry report.

In an ABC News TV interview with Joe O’Brien, Kirsty said the report confirmed the need for Queensland to shift its focus “upriver” to primary prevention, parental responsibility and community-led reform.

“When government meets individual responsibility with guaranteed opportunities, families can build capability. And that’s going to create the change,” Kirsty said.

Kirsty also joined Adam Stephen on ABC Radio Drive, where she discussed the Family Responsibilities Commission, school attendance, alcohol policy and the need to back local leadership.

“Our focus is on parents taking responsibility and ensuring that every child is safe and they grow up in a home that’s full of love and pride,” Kirsty said.

The interviews follow Cape York Institute for Policy and Leadership’s submissions to the inquiry, which called for a stronger focus on prevention, accountability and practical opportunities for families before children enter crisis.
